For his latest album, "My Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Fantasy" Kanye West called all sorts of artists to join him in the studio. The likely heavyweights Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, and Kid CuDi are present on the album, along with some other, less predictable, contributors. The combination that I was most intrigued by was his track with indie band Bon Iver. It seemed like opposite genres were colliding, and it was either a recipe for disaster or a genius collaboration that could redefine boundaries between genres. In this case, it was a (very) pleasant surprise! Bon Iver's smooth voice and cool beats compliment Kanye's harsh verses to create a truly great song. The Imogen-Heap-esque intro repeats throughout, backed by the tribal-sounding beats that Kanye is known for. However, Kanye's verses are not his best - I think that soon he'll tire of rapping and become solely a producer. He is immensely talented at creating hits as proven by 'Run This Town' by Rihanna & Jay Z, 'Find Your Love' by Drake, and 'Stand Up' by Ludacris, just to name a few. Though this artist combination is very unlikely, it paved the way for crossovers, and I still can't get it out of my head. See what you think!
Here it is, "Lost in the World" by Kanye West & Bon Iver. Enjoy!
